What is Casey, Illinois famous for?

Casey is famous for its big things and world’s largest things. Its motto “Big Things in a Small Town” is spot on. It has 12 world’s largest things such as the World’s Largest Mailbox where you can actually climb into the 32 foot tall mailbox and mail a letter. If that’s not enough, you can also see 11 other big things such as a birdcage that you can get into and swing on the perch.

Where is Casey, Illinois?

Casey (pronounced Kay-zee), IL is a small town located in East Central Illinois in Clark and Cumberland counties and spans a total of a 2.6 square mile area. It’s off of Interstate 70 between St. Louis, MO and Indianapolis, IN.

What to Do and See in Casey, IL

See all the world’s largest and big attractions that Casey has to offer, of course! Most of the attractions can be found downtown near the intersection of Main Street (Old National Road) and Central Avenue (Illinois Route 49)- the only stoplight in town. Park your car in one of the public parking lots or on the street and walk to most of the attractions and visit the local shops. Most of the attractions are available anytime, everyday. Ideal Time to Visit

You may want to plan to visit during “nice” weather months. We happened to be passing through during the winter and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity, buuut we were freezing walking from one place to the next and kind of rushed through. We took a quick picture and raced to the next one.

According to the Casey Chamber of Commerce site, “Other optimal times to visit are during our Candy Canes on Main event (First Saturday in December), our Fourth of July Celebration, or our Annual Popcorn Festival (Labor Day Weekend).  We also have several weekend events.  Please check our Facebook page for upcoming events.”  

Where to Eat

Richards Farm restaurant located at 607 NE 13th Street. While there, you can see the World’s Largest Pitchfork. They have delicious American style food and you get to dine in a beautiful 1930’s barn. It’s been family owned since 1972.

Whitling Whimsy located at 107 East Main Street. It is located across the street from the World’s Largest Rocking Chair, next to the World’s Largest Wind Chime, and has the big WW on the ceiling of the restaurant. You can eat breakfast, lunch, or an early dinner there- closed Sundays.

Cilantros Grill and Cantina located at 25 NorthWest 1st where you can also see the big Taco outside of the restaurant.

Brownie’s Place is a bar and grill located at 111 S Central Ave. where you can see the World’s Largest Swizzle Spoon in front of it.

Casey Coffee Company located at 6 West Main St. Great place to grab a coffee and/or pastry. Very fun, modern vibe with delicious coffee.

Road Trip Add On:

About 3 hours south of Casey, IL is Metropolis, IL, hometown of Superman. We visited Metropolis and then on the way home stopped in Casey for the day. We saw a 15 foot tall Superman statue, Superman museum, a piece of Kryptonite, and stayed in a Superman themed apartment in Metropolis.
